A message from an elderly male of the church.
My journey with my wife over the last 59 years has not been free of some life-challenging situations, particularly health-wise these past 20 years. Our commitment to our marriage was for better or worse, in sickness and health, for richer or poorer, never really appreciating what those vows may ask of us in the future.
The Bible says we will face challenges. Life is not always a bed of roses, but God is with us, to be our strength and encouragement to become overcomers.
You might know the quote, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” I’ve seen many situations when the going gets tough, the men get going. They do a runner, so to speak, not facing the situation and not giving their wife the understanding and support she needs.
“Don’t want to hear.”
“Don’t want to know.”
“I can’t face this.”
“I’m out of here.”
This is not necessarily expressed in words, but by their actions. Hiding in their jobs, their sport, their mates, and yes, even their ministry.
What a wimp! Right when a man’s wife needs him the most.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, “A threefold cord is not easily broken.” That’s you, your wife and almighty God.
My question is, are you a wimp or a warrior? My prayer is you are the second—the warrior—so your wife has two shoulders to lean on.
God bless you.
