How can I be a witness of God's favour to my unsaved family without being preachy?
One of the most common things people say when they see God’s favour shining in my life is “That was lucky”. To me, comments like these are like a poke in the eye to God.
I don’t want “luck” receiving any of God’s glory.
When people reference “luck”, they are trying to be kind. Instead of rebuking your loved ones, channel their praise toward God.
Here are several things to keep in mind when sharing about God’s favour in your life:
- It starts with your heart. You need to know without a doubt that it is God’s favour, not your awesomeness, which is propelling you onward and upward. If you think your efforts got you to where you are, people will struggle to believe you when you tell them God deserves all the credit.
- Try not to use church-only words. The longer you are a Christian, the more susceptible you are to speak “churchy” words. Be conscious of talking to your unsaved family in a way they can understand.
- Don’t be embarrassed. The evidence of God’s love in your life is His favour, so be yourself. Share about His goodness in your life with confidence.
- You don’t have to preach a sermon. Remember that with your family, your life is the sermon. Sometimes it’s advantageous to “say” more with our actions and show them God’s favour in your life.
