I heard Steven Furtick preach a message earlier this year. This message was so impactful, it helped me put the many things I’ve learnt throughout my life into one powerful phrase:
“Suddenlies come from things you do steadily.”
So often people are looking for a “suddenly”, believing for a “suddenly”, praying for a “suddenly” and declaring it’s going to happen all of a sudden.
These expectations are powerful and very much Bible-based. God’s Word is filled with stories of Him “doing a suddenly”. But people often leave out a crucial key: something which appears to be a “suddenly” is the end. It’s the result of something a person has done steadily for years.
The sudden extraordinary financial provision comes because of a lifestyle of tithing, giving, and sowing.
The joy of suddenly being asked to lead your neighbour in the prayer of Salvation is because you lived a Christ-like life in front of them all the years you’ve known them.
The “suddenly” of an amazing work promotion began with your consistent work ethic of being a dependable worker who went over and above, even when it appeared no one noticed.
The “suddenly” of stepping into your dream is because of the years you continually kept the vision before you, all you faithfully did to prepare yourself to be ready, and the way you stood and refused to give up, even when it looked like it would never come to pass.
The “suddenly” of Jericho’s walls coming down was caused by the six days of obedience in marching.
In the movie Finding Nemo, Dory encourages Marlin to “just keep swimming”.
So my encouragement to you today is this:
God cannot lie, your breakthrough WILL come, but it is up to you to just keep swimming, just keep obeying, just keep walking, just keep being a good worker, just keep witnessing, just keep sowing, just keep…
