Questions about Church

Here are some answers to common questions about Church.

Sunday Church is not just a religious tradition, it's a powerful time where we gather to worship God and grow together, so it will look a little different each week.

But it usually looks something like this:

  • Lots of people like to get there a little early to enjoy a chat and coffee in the lounge area. If the Eden coffee cart is running you're in for a treat!
  • We'll start service at 10am as the band leads us in worship. We'll sing praise and worship songs together, pouring out our love to God.
  • One of our pastors or leaders will bring a sermon. Our preaching style is pretty relaxed at Breakthrough, but we love to dive deep into God's Word together.
  • During the sermon, the kids will launch out to Superkid Academy, an exciting program designed for kids up to Grade 6. Parents: Click here for more information
  • We'll have an opportunity to give in the offering. It's not mandatory (and nobody keeps track of your giving), but we love the opportunity to worship God with our money.
  • There will often be an opportunity for one of our team to pray with anyone who wants it. Again, there's no pressure, but if you want someone to pray with you, this is a great space!
  • After church we love to hang around for morning tea and a chat (and often the kids will play on the playground).
  • Kids are VERY welcome at Breakthrough.
  • We love to have our children join in during the first part of the meeting as we praise and sing together.
  • If you have young children, you may find it easier sitting with them in our Parents' Room which is located at the back of the main auditorium. You will still be able to watch and listen to the meeting.
  • During the sermon, the kids will launch out to Superkid Academy, an exciting program designed for kids up to Grade 6. Click here for more information

Usually Church finishes around 12pm. Sometimes it's a bit shorter and sometimes a little longer, depending on what great things God is saying and doing!

Church starts at 10am on a Sunday, but a lot of people like to get there a bit early to enjoy a coffee from our Eden Coffee Cart and chat in the lounge area.

Whatever time you arrive, we can't wait to welcome you!

Whatever you want! We're pretty casual and happy to have you whatever you're wearing. You'll find most people in casual attire.

We've got plenty of parking at Breakthrough. We're at the end of a court with a small carpark, and lots of street parking right outside the building, so you shouldn't have any issues.

Absolutely! If you can't be there in person, we'd love to welcome you online! We're committed to ensuring that those joining us online are able to receive God's breakthrough love and power right where they are.

But, having said that, if you can get there in person we highly recommend it! As much as we love connecting online, there's just something about worshipping, praying and connecting together in the room.

And on top of that, we haven't yet figured out how to serve you virtual coffees online!

We'd love to help you get to Church, so if you need help with transport let us know!

No stress, you can join us on LIVE for church online! We love that we can join with our Breakthrough family live from all around the world every Sunday!

Absolutely not!

Sunday Church is not a religious tradition, and is not likewhat you might imagine a traditional church service to be.

It's a fun-filled, powerful time where the whole Breakthrough family gathers to worship, grow more like Jesus and enjoy quality time (and quality coffee) together!

Each Sunday during the meeting we will give people an opportunity to give an offering because for us it is one of the ways we love to worship God. It's certainly not mandatory and we don't keep any records of people's giving.

Our desire is that everyone who brings an offering at Breakthrough gives with faith and joy, expecting our giving to be like seed that brings a great harvest.

We tend to get pretty excited when praising God. It means that you may see people lifting up their hands, or even gathering at the front to dance, as we sing. God has done some amazing things in our lives and we love giving him exuberant praise.

In the bible it says, “I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer.” (Psalm 63:4)

Here are some of the reasons people share as to why they lift their hands in church:

  • It is a way I can show my surrender and yielding to God.
  • I like to involve my body as part of my worship.
  • I see it as an act of adoration and praise

Scriptures: This word means "writings" and is used when referring to the bible. The bible is God's book given to us to help us know and follow Him. You may also hear the bible referred to as "the word of God".

Tithe: The word means, "tenth." In the bible people would bring one tenth of their income to God as an offering.

Covenant: A formal agreement between two or more parties. God entered into covenants with key people of the bible such as Abraham and King David. He made a covenant with the people of Israel and gave them special rules to follow - we refer this as the Old Covenant. When Jesus came, He inaugurated a New Covenant which was available for all people and is the covenant we enjoy today. The word "testament" is also used for a covenant and that is why the Bible is divided into two sections: the Old and New Testaments.

Hallelujah: This is a Hebrew word that means "Praise God"

Amen: Another Hebrew word that means "so be it." People often use it at the end of a prayer as way of affirming their confidence and agreement with the prayer.

Church this Sunday
Connect with family. Connect with God.

Sunday Church is far more than a religious tradition, it's a life-giving time where we connect with each other, and ultimately connect with God.

Through powerful worship, Bible-based teaching and God-inspired ministry we wholeheartedly expect to see God work in our lives with His breakthrough love and power!

Sunday Church - for your whole family

At Breakthrough, we love family, and we want your whole family to enjoy worshipping with us.

During our Sunday church we also have an exciting Superkids program running on site  for children up to grade 6. The Superkid Academy is led by “Commanders” through exciting activities, energetic music and engaging lessons designed just for them.

There's a Parents Room at the back of the auditorium, with facilities for those with young children. This kid-safe space allows babies and toddlers to play and just "be kids", and their parents to still engage with what's happening in church whilst looking after their kids (and not worrying if they get noisy).

And if you want to hang around for a coffee and a chat, the kids can enjoy a run around on the playground!

Superkids
Quality time. Quality coffee.

We love hanging around after church to simply enjoy being family.

You can enjoy some quality coffee from the EDEN cart, have a chat in the lounge or a game of pool in The Furnace while the kids enjoy the playground or car racing machine.

We'd love to welcome you to Sunday Church soon!
