Growing as a disciple INside our meetings

Books to Discuss

Discussing a book together as Life Group. Choosing a book that will grow people as disciples. Here are some of the books that have been used in the past:

  • From Devastation to Restoration by Dr Jerry Savelle

Ice-Breaker Questions

Using Ice-Breaker questions are great for growing as a disciple. Here are some that Mark and Kirstie have found helpful:

  1. Who would you like to chat to when you get to heaven? ( A few people joked Eve to tell her off hehe) but it was a great insight.
  2. What is a book that's inspired you? (Other than the bible)
  3. Who is a person that you relate to in the bible?
  4. What is a go-to scripture that ministers to you? (We spent half of the meeting time on this it was a wonderful discussion)
  5. What ministry that has impacted you and your Christan walk? (Everyone agreed breakthrough PS Peter/Christine and shared another one.)
  6. Another one ... More getting to know you was share something that means something to you a photo, some shared a keyring they got from a special place or gift or a picture it was a great get to know you one.

Ice-breaker questions

Here are some of the questions that our Leaders have found particularly effective in having people open up and share about themselves.

  • Share something that means something to you. eg. a photo, some shared a keyring they got from a special place or gift or a picture. This question was a great get-to-know-you one. (from Mark and Kirstie)

Pastor Peter shared this suggestion:

We have found this method of asking ice-breaker questions particularly effective:

- We use the PDF list of ice-breaker questions (see button below) and go to the last section "INCLUDES SOME MORE THOUGHT PROVOKING QUESTIONS" which has 79 questions.
- We start with the first person in the group and randomly select one of the 79 questions (we have used different methods to do this - you can be creative with this and make it part of the fun. The easiest one is just asking them to pick a number between 1 and 79).
- The person has the choice whether to answer that question or pass (this stops the person from feeling trapped into answering a question they feel is too personal). So far, no-one in our group has chosen to pass a question.
- We then move on to the next person who chooses a new question to answer.
- The questions are a good mix of low-level and more-deeper questions. Every now and again a person has opened up and shared something personal which has enabled us to show support/prayer or simply to get to know that person on a deeper level.
- We found the fact that everyone was answering a different question kept it really fresh and interesting.

WhatsApp communications

Using WhatsApp to share prayer requests and praise reports during the week is a great way to develop friendships.

  • Share a need that someone in the group is facing, so people can pray.
  • Share scriptures etc. with the person in need, and let them know you are praying.
  • Arrange to help with practical support for the person in need. (eg. The Life Group arranged meals for someone who was unwell).
