The definitions of influence:

  • The power or capacity to cause an effect in direct or tangible ways.
  • The capacity to have an effect on the character, the behaviour, the development of someone or something.

Being an influence is something that is really huge in my life - especially as a Mother. I realise that being a Mother isn’t just about dressing, feeding and driving my kids… it’s giving input and direction into their life and seeing WHO God WANTS THEM TO BE.

But you don’t have to be a mother to be an influencer, EVERYONE has people in their lives who they will influence - whether they know it or not.

And the ways I influence are:

  • Through words
  • Through lifestyle
  • Through actions

I find that everyone (children, adults, saved, unsaved) will watch WHAT YOU DO, even more than what you say. I want my actions and encounters with people to be having a godly influence on them. I would love to think that the influence I have on people is making them better people, and taking them closer to Jesus.

So if I know that my desire is:

  • I want my life to be an influence on my children and grandchildren.
  • I want my life to be an influence on my unsaved neighbour.
  • I want my life to be an influence to the people who sell me groceries at Coles.
  • I want my life to be an influence to the barista at my favourite coffee shop.

Then... how would that affect my actions, descisions, priorities, words, conversations today? If I actually believed that my actions today could be influencing someone I love and care about...then would that change what I do? Would it change the words I say? Would it change how I prioritise my schedule?

We are all influencers! And we are all influencing people every day.

So who is someone TODAY that you can influence? And how can you influence them?

Could one word, action, decision or response from you…enable someone to go to sleep tonight a little closer to Jesus?
